At the start of the 2009/10 season the club trialled its "Club Membership Scheme" whereby members pay a simple one off annual fee that covers all their hockey costs for the year or spread this cost over regular monthly payments.
This was in a move to replace the traditional method of paying a subscription cost up front and then weekly match & training fees which has always been a logistical nightmare for the few whom the burden of collecting the money falls upon. The list of excuses members come up with for not having their money at any given time would make a good book but sadly it wouldn't pay the clubs running costs.
Given that most people are paid monthly these days it makes sound financial sense to pay your hockey costs monthly. Once the payment is set up you can forget about it and just turn up and play and train with a clear conscience. It eliminates any arguments that can unfold around money and also makes the already overburdened captains lives a lot easier.
It means you should treat your Worksop Hockey Club membership as being no different to a gym/health club subscription or a mobile phone contract which are spread over the year in a similar manner. For too long the club has lost money whilst the honest and reliable majority have subsidised the playing costs of the minority who choose to wriggle out of paying or in some cases flatly refuse.
This simply can't continue and with this in mind, as of 1st April 2010, it will become mandatory for anyone wishing to be a club member to pay their membership via the new method of one lump sum payment or via monthly direct debit.
Those who don't or refuse to pay will simply not be considered for a place in the teams come the start of the season in September.
Membership application forms are available from your club officials.
FAQ
"What does the membership cost include?"
It includes all your playing and training costs for the year:
- Annual Club Subscription
- League Subscription
- Insurance
- All League Match Fees
- Year round Training with Level 3 coach (during playing season)
- Pitch hire
- Fuel cost for away game drivers
- Match day teas
So no longer do you have to think I need to nip to the cashpoint or make those journeys back home when you've left your wallet on the hall table…the worst you'll do on the day is go thirsty
"Why should I pay over 12 months when there is no Hockey April to August?"
To make the monthly amount smaller and less of an impact on your disposable income it makes sense to spread the cost over 12 months (Financial Year April to March). Whilst there are no official games between April and August the club is committed to running all year round training and a host of tournaments / social events so there are tangible benefits to members during this time but still running costs to the club. For those who have already been paying this way the feedback has been 100% positive and in favour of the method.
"What details do I need to provide for monthly Direct Debit?"
The club will be using a Direct Debit collection company (covered by the direct debit guarantee) to collect the payments for us on a monthly basis. All we require from you is your Sort Code, Account number and preferred date for your payment to go out.
"How can I pay the one off lump sum?"
You can make a simple one off payment either in cash, by cheque or by debit/credit card through our online shop.
"What is the benefit of me paying in one lump?"
As way of a reward for members paying their membership up front in one go they receive a discount over the direct debit scheme equivalent of upto 12 free training sessions **
"What if I can't play for a chunk of the season through injury?"
The club will look at instances like this on a case by case basis and refunds/reductions may be issued in genuine instances such as serious injury.
** Discounted rate only applies if payment received by 31st April 2010
