Normanby 0-3 1st XI

Worksop carried on the great start to pre season with a sparkling 3-0 victory away to Yorkshire League side Normanby Park in Scunthorpe.  A flying start saw Worksop take the lead after Geoff Walker poached home a rebound from a well worked short corner.  More good play followed with centre forward Sam Walter bagging a brace, the first rifling home from another exemplory short corner and the second showing good strength and persistance to hold off the defender and force the ball home.  Worksop tired towards the end of the game but the defence held firm and dealt with Normanby's attacks with organised teamplay and rode the game out to keep a well deserved clean sheet.  It was pleasing to see the hard work that had been done in training on positioning and setting up pay off.

Man of the match: Peter Renshaw

Doncaster 2-2 Worksop

Worksop got their pre season off to a flier as they secured an impressive 2-2 draw against National League side Doncaster.  Goals from Harrison and Gorman saw Worksop take a two goal lead at half time and after a magnificent all round performance they were unlucky not to come away with a victory.

Saturday 16th August'08

7 a side Tournament - Leicester

A squad of 10 players travelled down to Leicester Westleigh's St Margarets Ground for a 7 a side tournament.  Worksop played 6 matches throughout the course of the day and did well to compete against teams from the Premier and 1st Divisions.  The games were played on a full size pitch and exposed how fitness levels need improving ahead of the forthcoming season.  The main highlight of the day was the performance of young debutant goalkeeper Richard Ibberson who pulled off some top drawer saves.

Saturday 10th May '08

Under 18's Tournament - Leicester

A squad of 8 players travelled down to Leicester Westleigh's St Margarets Ground for a 7 a side tournament.  With an age range of 13-18 Worksop did very well to compete with some stronger and older teams and in the tropical heat they managed a credible 7th place finish.  Special mention to young Mitchell Glasby who pulled off some fantastic saves and also to Tom Renshaw who showed real fight and determination in a number of different positions.  All in all a very enjoyable day out was had by both players and the travelling supporters who cheered the boys on from the sideline.  Pictures are in the gallery section.
